My girl loves to take pictures, she’s into photography. Anyone know a great place to take pictures? We both live in Portland, OR. I already took her to Multnomah falls, Japanese Gardens, Mt. Hood. I’d like to take her within a 80 mile radius or somethin close to that.. thanks
Are you kidding me? The Pacific NW is such an amazing place for photography you shouldn’t have to look far. When I used to live in Portland I got many, many great shots everywhere I turned. Stand on one of the bridges at sunset and take some slow shutterspeed shots of the the other bridges and the sunset. St. Johns Bridge is a great one to photograph by itself. All of downtown is very photo friendly, especially in Black and White. Many of my own favorite shots were on the coast. Hug Point is great. I have also spent lots of time on the Columbia River historic highway. Get out of your car and go for one of the many hikes to get some great shots.
Man, I’m getting so excited just talking about all of the wonderful photographic opportunities in the greater Portland area alone, I can’t even get started talking about Washington to.
Naomi Kawakami is one of Japan’s top commercial portrait artists, the photographer of such cultural icons as Quentin Tarantino, John Lurie, Jim Jarmusch, Bryan Ferry, Charlie Watts, Philip Glass, David Bowie, Van Dyke Parks, Serge Gainsbourg, Michael Nyman, Julee Cruise, Sylvie Vartan and Vladimir Ashkenazy. The list goes on: artists, ballet dancers, actors, manga artists, even former Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi. Kawakami has produced portraits of them all — more than 300 celebrities altogether.
■ITALY 1985-1990
56 photos, most shared for the first time on this occasion. Great simply to look at and enjoy, these images also pose interesting questions for every viewer. What does a gifted Japanese photographer see in the faces of the people he meets in Italy? How is the presence of a Japanese photographer reflected in their expressions? Why does he choose these moments, these people? What do these photos tell us about the Japanese way of seeing Italy, and what Western traditions of photography are evident in the artist’s approach? Look below the surface, and you’ll find yourself checking the collection again and again.

I need to learn japanese . My mom is going to take me on an extended trip there for my photography. I’m 14 and i would like to learn through a book. Any good titles?
"Japanese for Busy People" is useful and widely available. It’s a starter course.
If you’re going for a short time, why don’t you get a phrasebook? Something pocket-sized, like Lonely Planet’s Japanese phrasebook helped me out my first year in Japan!

I have to do a creative project that has to do with Japanese aesthetics focusing on women. The problem is that I’m not creative. What should I do?
It can be anything, music, video, drawing, photography, writing etc. I just don’t know where to start. Any ideas are appreciated.
Go to the nearest Japanese business and ask to be introduced to an old lady.
Then you can ask her about sewing, embroidery, weaving, braiding kumihomo, and other skills. Japanese woomen are wonderful textile artists, even quilters.

I am trying to set up a in-house photography studio and am looking for realistic scenic backdrops that are decent priced. Most places have the hand-painted muslims ones that look very unreal. I’m especially interested in those that have an asian flair (japanese gardens, etc).
I’m looking for the pull down backgrounds, not digital.
These backdrops are very popular in the asian community. Many couples go in for these studio shots where the backgrounds are not real, but very realistic. For instance, you have the couple wearing a traditional asian outfit and have the picture being taken in front of a matching traditional scenic background. I hope there will be photographers who know where I can get these backdrops.
